Winter driving tips from Larry H. Miller Subaru Boise

The weather outside always eventually gets frightful here in Boise and in Idaho, as well. This can create treacherous driving conditions, even for the experienced snow driver. So for those of you who have to brave this winter wonderland, the Larry H. Miller Subaru Boise team put together some helpful tips for driving in winter conditions.
First of all, it's important that you keep a few items in your vehicle in case you need them:
  • Ice scrap
  • Tire chains
  • Small shovel or ice pick
  • Water supply
  • A flashlight
  • Gloves, coats and blankets
  • Signal devices, such as a flare
One thing that will make a tremendous impact on your ability to grip the road in slippery conditions is your tires. Snow tires should be applied to your vehicle to help you get the maximum amount of traction. It's also important to keep your tires properly inflated. Remember, your tires are the only part of the vehicle that touches the road!
Here are a few driving tips that will also help you stay out of trouble in icy and snowy conditions:
  • Slow down! This might seem obvious, but your ability to stop and stay in control depends upon your speed.
  • Brake gently and leave plenty of room. If your wheels lock up, or you feel your vehicle sliding when attempting to stop, pump your brakes--don't stand on them.
  • Steer in the direction you want your front end to go. If your rear wheels slide left, gently turn the wheel left. If your rear wheels slide right, gently turn to the right to gain control.
  • Our symmetrical AWD vehicles perform much better in the snow than other vehicles.
  • Don't panic! If you feel your vehicle start to slide, don't try to over-correct the situation. Pump your brakes and use gentle maneuvering to steer the vehicle.
We wish you all a safe and happy 2014! Plan ahead and be careful out there!

In Our Community

As Thanksgiving draws nigh it is a great time for us to reflect on how grateful we are to be a part of this great community. We are proud members of the Boise family and during the month of November we have had quite a few opportunities to give back.

#ShareTheLoveBoise
We kicked off our #ShareTheLoveBoise campaign with a morning at Dutch Brothers Coffee. We arrived early on a Monday and purchased coffee for the first 100 people to show up. We had a great morning and were able to interact with many wonderful people. We are planning on doing something unique every month to show the members of our community our appreciation.

Rake Up Boise
This has become a great tradition for the LHM Subaru Boise team and we were proud to get out and show our support. We had a great turn out and we were able to rake up a pretty substantial amount of leaves. If you didn't get a chance to make it out this year, be sure to put it on your calendar for next year.

Turkey Drive
There are over 93,000 people struggling with hunger in the valley on any given day. We have partnered with Rosauers and the Journal Broadcast Group to put on this years Turkey Drive. The goal is to to help make sure that everyone can celebrate Thanksgiving with a warm holiday meal. http://bit.ly/18TRQLt

If you would like to help with any of these events, or anything else we have planned in the future,  please visit us online or give us a call.

Spooky Subie

Here at Larry H. Miller Subaru we have been getting ready for Halloween by getting our cars into some scary costumes and by making some scary deals. The Crosstrek is new to the Subaru line up and we nearly had to keep a mop on hand when it showed up to clean up all of our drool.

This good looking vehicle comes with 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels and features 8.7 inches of ground clearance to help you cover nearly every road your heart sets out on. If you are in the market for something that will stand the test of time and get you safely through our harsh Idaho winters, look no further. The Crosstrek is your solution.
